This study explores architectural design by examining air, fluid mechanics, and the natural ventilation of buildings. In this context, this research introduces a new way of dealing with the process of architectural synthesis. The proposed way can be used either to create new architectural projects or to rethink existing ones. This study is supported by previous investigation into the natural ventilation of buildings via computational and laboratory simulation (Stavridou, 2011; Stavridou and Prinos, 2013). The investigation into the natural ventilation of buildings provides information and data that affect architectural design through various parameters. The parameters of architectural synthesis that are influenced and discussed in this paper are the following: (i) inspiration and analogical transfer, (ii) initial conception of the main idea using computational fluid dynamics (digital design), (iii) development of the main idea through an investigatory process toward building form optimization, and (iv) form configuration, shape investigation, and other morphogenetic prospects. This study illustrates the effect of natural ventilation research on architectural design and thus produces a new approach to the architectural design process. This approach leads to an innovative kind of architecture called “breathing architecture.”
A concept statement clarifies an idea or design in words. Such statements are often used as part of a business plan or when proposing an idea to an investor or potential partner. The entirety of the business or product is summed up in just a few sentences, yet enough details are provided to give audiences a comprehensive understanding of the idea. A well-written concept statement allows the listener to have a clear visualization of the business.
Keep the concept statement to one paragraph consisting of three or four sentences. The concept statement is not the business plan; rather the wording is used in business plans to easily explain the idea, product or design.
Identify exactly what your product or service is. For example, rather than broadly stating, “I will be starting a marketing company,” you might say, “I will be starting a marketing company that specializes in promoting sports, fitness and athletes.”
Explain what your company will do. Marketing, for example, encompasses many factors. Determine if you will specialize in a certain avenue of marketing, such as social media. An idea may be, “The company will design and implement social media campaigns to help sporting and fitness companies, along with professional athletes, maximize the exposure benefits of online marketing.”
Clarify the unique aspects of your idea or company. Investors may not want to put their money into something that already exists. Explain how your marketing company, for example, will go about developing social media campaigns in a different way than what has already been done. Possibly you will be using social media websites in a cutting-edge way to get the word out on your clients. This will also help attract the athletes and sports companies to your firm, rather than those that are offering cookie-cutter campaigns.
Combine all of the factors into one solid concept statement. Using the marketing company as an example, the concept statement would be, “I will be starting a marketing company that specializes in promoting sports, fitness and athletes. The company will design and implement social media campaigns to help sporting and fitness companies, along with professional athletes, maximize the exposure benefits of online marketing. I will be using social media websites in a cutting-edge way to promote my clients.”
